BERLIN, SHE-WAILERS, UPCOMING

In “Silent Spills III”  the choreographer Deva Schubert, the dancer Camilla Schielin and the sound artist Davide Luciani explore the leaky body as a metaphor for porous boundaries within society’s information flow.

Set within the former hospital in Moabit, “Silent Spills III” raises questions about which bodies are allowed to speak for themselves and which are spoken about, who is believed, and how understanding, awareness, knowledge and intelligence interlace, substitute each other and move around. The performance draws on the everyday force of gossip as a fleeting, polyphonic form of communication that unfolds through intimate encounters within architectures of power. Flirting with the threshold of the hearable, the bodies and the live sound search for cracks in the architecture to set it into motion.

As Brendan LaBelle writes: “If the whisper is the medium by which to trespass and transverse the arena of reason and the reasonable, of capitalistic logic, it may be heard to point toward all that has been repressed by the powers of the outspoken. In other words, at which point did we start to whisper?” Working with whispers and choral singing Deva Schubert continues her long-standing exploration of the voice that always tells more than what it says. Through subtle subversions, the performance seeks to create a social choreography, where the private leaks into the public.
