Hadi Rahnaward, "غوغاسالاری/Mobocracy", 1 November 2024, artist talk

1 November 2024, 18:30

BERLIN, S&T RESIDENCY, ARCHIVE

In this talk, visual artist and current resident at the studio, Hadi Rahnaward, explores the role of disinformation and propaganda in shaping perceptions and fueling conflicts. His research focuses on pivotal moments from his home country, such as the Soviet-Afghan War and the American occupation of Afghanistan. Through his art practice, Rahnaward demonstrates the enduring impact of these distorted narratives. His videos, photographs, and performances question how misinformation has contributed to instability and prolonged conflict by manipulating perceptions of the “other,” driving cycles of violence, and facilitating regime changes. By delving into Afghanistan’s history, Rahnaward offers a critical reflection on image production and proposes alternatives to dominant Western narratives.
