Reza Negarestani, “Thus Spake al-Khawrazmi”, lecture

28 September 2024, 19:00

BERLIN, COLLABORATIONS, ARCHIVE

This talk revolves around re-examining the Rational Mechanics, a schema made by the philosopher René Descartes to re-invent and re-engage with the perennial messages of philosophy after their corruption by the scholastic readings of Aristotle in the Middle Ages. According to Descartes, this computational schema holds the keys to a stury emancipatory and revolutionary Enlightenment. Yet later on, a  counter-revolution emerged in Europe in the guise of the Enlightenment, whose consequences, as we now truly witness, are not just philosophical and artistic impulses but fundamentally and historically significant ethical and political catastrophes. Thus, this talk is a plea for a radicalized version of enlightened philosophy and a humanity that is concretely able to withstand the assaults of counter-emancipation.
