SLURS: Research Group
14 November 2023, Relais Culture Europe (Paris)
BERLIN, SLURS, ARCHIVE
Part of the program SLURS Pickle Bar organise a one day research group at Relais Culture Europe, in Paris on 14th November at 132 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, 75010 Paris, France.
The project aims to study the history of language violence with a peculiar focus on specific geographies and community struggles. By studying slurs, and in particular ethnophaulisms (or disparaging remarks about an ethnonym), the project will look at how violent expressions, or derogatory words, are being shaped into linguistic local discourses. Invited researchers, curators and artists will look at visuals and philological sources as well as the practice of translation.
The day of research will start with a reading session of bibliographical references on the topic, followed by presentations and talks with the contributors.
