A collaboration in the framework of Bastardie at KADIST and Sturm Aand Slang at Pickle Bar Berlin, the t-shirt edition designed by Garine Gokceyan plays on a paronomasia—a linguistic trick that pairs two similar words (in sound and writing), with different meanings—illustrating the impossibility of an accurate translation. The Italian expression “traduttore, traditore” encapsulates this idea that translation is always a betrayal of the true meaning of the original. By repeating the “mistake” in Armenian, English and Turkish, Gokceyan offers a multilingual and multi script exploration of the concept.
