Yevheniia Moliar, “Ukrainian Reading Book Club for Children and Teenagers”, reading space

May–June 2023

BERLIN, S&T RESIDENCY, ARCHIVE

Marta and Kira are both 12 and 9 years old girls who were evacuated from Kyiv last year. Among the most important things they took were some of their favorite books. Being in new cities in a foreign language environment, reading Ukrainian books has taken on a new meaning for them. These are not just interesting stories, but also a subtle intimate engagement with the native language. The girls collected a small but meaningful bunch of contemporary Ukrainian children's and teenage literature. They have read all these books several times themselves and now want to share them with others.

The reading book club is an initiative by Yevheniia Moliar, a resident at Slavs and Tatars studio.

Yevheniia Moliar residency is supported by the fellowship Program "Weltoffenes Berlin" by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe.
