BERLIN, CAUSERIE AND EFFECT, UPCOMING

Bye Bye Binary (BBB) is a Franco-Belgian collective, an educational experiment, a community, a variable typo-graphic creation workshop, a network, an alliance. The collective, founded in November 2018, proposes to explore new graphic and typographic forms adapted to the French language, in particular the creation of glyphs (letters, ligatures, median points, linking or symbiotic elements) taking inclusive and non-binary language and writing as their starting point, field of experimentation and subject of research.
Free admission
Language: English
Duration: 30 mins.

Roxane Maillet & Félixe Kazi-Tani are artists and graphic designers, founders of the Bye Bye Binary research collective. The co-founder Roxane Maillet is a graphic designer based in Paris. Her practice focuses on queer and lesbian semiotics, exploring the emancipatory linguistic strategies of marginalized communities. She also co-edit Phylactère with Auriane Preud’homme, a magazine archiving and transcribing artistic performances. She considers graphic design as a living practice, present everywhere—not just in institutional outputs. She draws inspiration from vernacular forms, which are often labeled as amateur or “poorly made.” She mostly develops editorial tools to amplify minority narratives and challenge authority dynamics between creators, designers and readers.
