Performance Program
BERLIN, SHE-WAILERS, UPCOMINGSHE-WAILERS unfolds as a series of new commissioned performances in the public spaces of Berlin-Moabit, seeking to expose the concealed struggles for power, past and present, that circle around the female voice. Long before it was sexualized and confined to the role of seductress, that voice was revered across different ancient traditions, as a vessel of mystery: a channel through which song could bear sorrow, premonition, justice, comfort, or healing.
SHE-WAILERS excavating the silenced and the sidelined within language, and uncovering the hidden architectures of violence within the city fabric itself. At its core lies a meditation on hearsay, rumor, and the unspoken—the fragile threads from which history is often spun and undone. Performance artists are invited to work with sound and voice, dwell into the semantics of different city sites, asking how new and old stories might be heard anew today—through wails, whispers, and the voices that refuse to be silenced.
